“The Gov. Reaper?”
CNN faced a wave of reaction over the weekend for mocking Senator Ted Cruz of Texas after his trip to Cancún while sparing New York Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo despite his scandal at the coronavirus nursing home.
Social media users were quick to call the network liberal for shooting the Texas senator with several sarcastic references, while intentionally covering up the scandal surrounding the Cuomo government.

“Yesterday on CNN, Ted Cruz was referred to as” Flyin ‘Ted “and” Cancun Cruz. “Why aren’t they giving Andrew Cuomo smart nicknames?” a Twitter user wrote, suggesting “The Gov Reaper or something.”
Cruz landed in warm waters on Wednesday night after photos surfaced on social media showing him and his family flying to Mexico for a vacation, while Texas suffered after the winter storms that devastated the state’s power grid. Cruz flew back to Houston the next day amid the reaction. He later admitted that it was a mistake to travel at the time, but not without first earning the liberal network’s nicknames “Flyin ‘Ted” and “Cancun Cruz”.
Notably absent from the network’s new arsenal of nicknames, however, was Governor Cuomo – the older brother of CNN host Chris Cuomo, who made an unprecedented effort to minimize and evade Democratic controversies. The far-left network gave little or no airtime to developments under way during the pandemic – often offering young Cuomo free rein to conduct friendly and comical interviews with the governor plagued by the scandal.
A Twitter user called the network for appearing to take a page out of former President Trump’s handbook, after years of dismissing his nicknames as “divisive” and “hateful.”
“I seem to remember a guy who gave people smart nicknames that those same people called ‘divisive’ and ‘hateful,” he wrote. ”
“What a pity for CNN to give nicknames to Ted Cruz,” commented another.
The Cuomo administration is reportedly under investigation by the FBI and the US Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, after critics accused authorities of covering up the true number of deaths in COVID nursing homes in the state. At the beginning of the pandemic, the governor ordered assisted health centers to accept COVID-positive patients in order to keep hospital beds free.
While Cruz and Cuomo generated unflattering headlines, only one dominated coverage during CNN’s prime-time lineups over the weekend – and it wasn’t Cuomo.
CNN did not immediately respond to Fox News’s request for comment.
