CNN continues to face criticism for dealing with bombastic sexual harassment charges against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, D., as the liberal network spent less than two minutes in 48 hours on the news while insisting on a lack of corroboration and governor’s denial while totally ignoring him during prime time.
NewsBusters editor-in-chief Curtis Houck wrote that CNN “just threw messages to viewers that they treat as small-brain offspring with just 96 seconds in two news briefs” by anchors John King and Jake Tapper, who focused in the governor’s denial before the network went back to ignore the news during prime time.
CNN FINALLY ADDRESS SEXUAL HARASSMENT CLAIMS AGAINST CUOMO AFTER 24 HOURS OF SILENCE
CNN was silent on allegations of sexual harassment by former Cuomo aide Lindsey Boylan against Chris Cuomo’s older brother, the network’s most-watched presenter, for nearly 24 hours.
On Wednesday, she detailed allegations that the governor asked her to play strip poker, made an obscene reference to Bill Clinton’s infamous use of cigars, touched her lower back and kissed her on the lips.
CNN first managed to cover the story online on Thursday after a day of silence and started with Cuomo’s denial. Critics quickly pointed out that the framework was significantly different from the way unverified claims against Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh – but CNN had not finished moving the posts.
The liberal network finally ended its blackout in the air of blunt news, after more than 24 hours completely protecting viewers of the story with a brief 39-second segment that emphasized Cuomo’s denial.

CNN viewers who didn’t blink caught anchor King quickly echoing the governor’s discussion points about his accuser.
At the end of the day, CNN’s Tapper – who was embarrassed on social media for skipping the story earlier – made another brief mention and emphasized: “CNN was unable to corroborate Boylan’s claims.”
Journalist Eddie Zipperer noticed and scoffed at Tapper’s hurried segment.

“I bet the CNN audience was shocked to find that corroboration is necessary,” he wrote. “And that the charges against Cuomo exist.”
“The hypocrisy of the left once again, ladies and gentlemen. ‘We believe in all women’ until you don’t believe it,” wrote one viewer, while another said, “It is good to see that CNN is dealing with Cuomo da same direct and objective approach that they took during Kavanaugh’s procedures. “
In addition to uninterrupted coverage of unsubstantiated claims against Kavanaugh, CNN also dedicated significant coverage to E. Jean Carroll when she claimed that former President Trump sexually assaulted her in a dressing room more than 20 years ago. Carroll was even invited to CNN’s “New Day” and a prime-time interview with Anderson Cooper to share his story.
The hyperpartisan network also largely ignored allegations of sexual assault against President Joe Biden by a former Senate official, Tara Reade, who performed during the 2020 campaign.
Boylan did not respond when asked if CNN invited her on the air to share her story. She tweeted on Friday morning that she was “grateful for the support” she has received since sharing her story.
All of CNN’s prime time programming continued to ignore Boylan’s claims that the governor after the network devoted only 96 seconds to explosive news during less-attended daytime programming.

“And again, after that, the hosts of the night, Wolf Blitzer and Erin Burnett, refused to mention Cuomo, and primetime hosts Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon followed suit, helping Fredo and his brother keep their viewers away from negative headlines around ‘Luv Guv’. ” Houck wrote.
The namesake of “Cuomo Prime Time”, Chris Cuomo, could not tell the story if he wanted to, since CNN banned the presenter from covering his older brother. CNN previously lifted the ban when the once popular governor was considered a hero of the coronavirus, but reinstated it as several scandals began to make national headlines.
