CNN medical analyst Leana Wen has sounded the totalitarian alarm, warning that Americans can resume their pre-pandemic freedoms without being vaccinated, if the Biden government does not make jabs a precondition.
“We need to make it clear to them that the vaccine is the ticket back to pre-pandemic life,” said Wen, who was once president of Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States.
Wen lamented to CNN presenter Chris Cuomo that many states have started to fully reopen their savings and remove Covid-19 restrictions, leaving a “Very narrow window” to link the normalization of everyday life to the state of vaccination.
“Otherwise, if everything is reopened, what will be the carrot?” Asked Wen. “How are we going to encourage people to actually get the vaccine?”
That’s why I think the CDC and the Biden administration need to be a lot bolder and say, ‘If you get vaccinated, you can do all of those things. Here are all those freedoms you have. ‘
The worrying alternative, added Wen, is that “People are going to go out and enjoy those freedoms anyway”, which will leave the United States vulnerable to a new outbreak of Covid-19 infections next fall. Wen’s comments come amid a global controversy over so-called ‘vaccine passports’, which require citizens to provide proof of their Covid-19 vaccines to access anything from sporting events to air travel and shopping. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order on Friday banning vaccine passports to block the creation of a two-tier society with first and second class citizens based on vaccination status.

The CNN medical analyst’s authoritarian view of public health was frightening to many observers. “Incredibly scary,” said former acting director of national intelligence, Richard Grenell. “They think we get our freedom from the government.”
