Imagine this: you are waiting at the gate to board your next flight to an exotic international destination (or perhaps a less exotic home destination). Instead of looking at a smartphone or laptop to pass the time, you are looking at a TV screen, which probably shows the CNN Airport network.
Well, starting this spring, jet setters will no longer be able to watch the legendary CNN Airport Network. CNN World President Jeff Zucker announced in a memo to staff today that the company has decided to terminate operations on the CNN airport network on March 31.
The network was launched on January 20, 1992.
“The sharp decline in airport traffic because of Covid-19, along with all the news was that people are consuming content on their personal devices, the need for the CNN Airport Network has decreased,” he wrote.
Zucker adds: “I’m sure most of us have a story to tell about what airport we were at when we heard about a big news event …”
