CNBC correspondent encourages viewers to wear three masks

More is always better – I think, to some extent, this is the American way. Now, that philosophy is apparently spreading to the way we wear masks.

Speaking this week to NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and an unparalleled expert in all things at COVID-19, suggested that Americans wear two masks instead of one. The scientific reason behind the building, he told Guthrie, is “it just makes sense” that two masks are “probably” better than one.

Following the natural arc of the physician’s logic, he raises the question: why not more than two masks, then? Now we turn to the CNBC correspondent, Countess Brewer, who took over the mantle there.

Speaking to anchor Shep Smith, she said that Americans should probably wear three masks because, as Fauci’s logic suggests, wearing three masks is better than just settling for just two facial covers.

“Experts keep telling us that wearing masks is really protecting ourselves – protecting others from ourselves in case we are contagious,” Brewer told Smith. “But, you know, if other people are not wearing your masks, or are wearing them inappropriately, we need to protect ourselves. Therefore, experts say you can fold with a tight weave fabric mask for added protection. “

“Now, Virginia Tech researchers have found that folding these cloth masks increases the effectiveness from 50% to 75%,” she continued. “A three-layer mask can block up to 90% of the particles.”

One of the doctors behind this technical study, Dr. Monica Gandhi, tweeted Tuesday that the “exact recommendation” is an N-95 mask, which is currently difficult to find in the public market. So, instead, she is suggesting that people wear a surgical mask under a cloth mask or a double layer cloth mask with a “vacuum bag” filter between the layers. Ultimately, however, she noted that simply using a single layer mask is still better than nothing and pointed out that wearing multiple masks at the same time is not very practical because it will make your voice muffled and “you will pull it down . ”

Vice President Kamala Harris adopted the two-mask rule. On Tuesday, when she received the second dose of her COVID-19 vaccination, Harris was wearing two masks: a surgical-grade mask under a black cloth mask.

It is important to note, as I did in Faithwire’s “4 & 3 Podcast”, that we’ve come a long way since what Fauci told Americans in March, which was that “people shouldn’t walk around in masks”, because that doesn’t it would really do a lot to protect them from the virus.

Fauci – as well as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – later changed their tone and said that the previous message was intended to preserve the number of masks available to health professionals and first responders and was not correct information.

Of course, there is evidence to show that the use of fabric masks offers some protection to people and protects the vulnerable population from falling ill due to COVID-19.
