Punk spoke to Renee Paquette about the Oral Sessions podcast in December and was asked what it would take to put it back in a ring.
“I think the landscape today is very different from when I left,” said Punk. “You can play the game where you think, ‘Oh, AEW was an option, would you have gone right after leaving WWE?’ If you’re going to play that game, there is no way they (WWE) would have handled the way they handled it, suspending me for two months and no one contacting me and the next thing I know, I have my release papers on my wedding day. That wouldn’t have happened if there was an AEW. Because then they would probably approach me and say, ‘Hey, your suspension is over. Ready to get back to work? Let’s get this over with.’ Or deal with it like any other sports organization would have done [a] stellar pitcher going home. They are not just going to let you leave the team, go to a rival organization. “
He added that of the two companies, AEW makes the most convincing argument.
“What would it take? Oh my God. Without wanting to insult anyone on either side of the fence, any talent from WWE or AEW, an interesting scenario would be needed, above all,” he said. “A story that would be fun to tell and also the stupidest amount of money. But, they can save a lot of money if they present a fun story. Now, what is that, I don’t know.
