Closer, Trevor Rosenthal, Oakland Athletics close 1-year deal for $ 11 million, sources say

Nearest Trevor Rosenthal and Oakland Athletics agree on a $ 11 million one-year contract, sources familiar with the deal confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.

Rosenthal, 30, was looking for a four-year contract, but the market for free agents for replacement jars has burst. He had options for several years, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan, but he chose the highest annual salary and saved opportunities that Oakland offered.

The right-handed was 1-0 with 11 saves and 1.90 ERA in 23 relief games last season for Kansas City and San Diego, who acquired it on August 29. He joined the Padres in the middle of a rebound season after struggling with injuries and underperformance in recent years.

He did particularly well against left-handed hitters, hitting a total of 22 of the 42 hitters he faced and allowing only five hits and a percentage of 0.167 hitting. He did the postseason with the Padres, but fought for an ERA of 13.50 with a defense and six races allowed in four entries.

Rosenthal has 132 saves and an ERA of 3.36 over eight major league seasons.

His major league career started with the Cardinals from 2012 to 17, and he was part of the 2013 Cardinals team that lost to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. He joined the NL All-Star team in 2015, when he saved 48 games for St. Louis. He made 45 saves in 2014.

Rosenthal missed the entire 2018 season because of elbow surgery and signed with Washington Nationals in November. He was discouraged with the Nationals and Detroit Tigers in 2019, going 0-1 with an ERA of 13.50 in 22 appearances with severe attacks of savagery, before signing a $ 2.25 million contract with the Royals before the last season.

The MLB Network first reported Rosenthal’s deal with the A’s.
