Clemson loses 8-7 to South Carolina

(Clemson version)

COLOMBIA, SC – Andrew Eyster’s single walkoff with two outs in the ninth inning boosted South Carolina’s No. 16 to an 8-7 victory over No. 22 Clemson at Founders Park Sunday afternoon. Gamecocks, who had a 2-0 lead in the series of the season, improved to 6-0, while Tigers dropped to 3-2.

For the second day in a row, Eyster sent South Carolina to victory with a walkoff hit. On Sunday, Brady Allen started the ninth inning with a walk, then Wes Clarke went out with one. After a strikeout, Eyster lined up a 1-0 shot against the wall in the center right to mark Allen.

James Parker extended his streak to 12 games with a double of two outs and consecutive markings on the first entry, so Clarke hit a solo home run on the third entry. Clemson regained the lead in the fifth inning with Jonathan French’s two-out double and two runs. At the end of the fifth inning, Braylen Wimmer came out with a home run, so Clarke hit a three-run home run, the second in the game and the eighth of the season, giving South Carolina a 5-3 lead.

The Tigers recovered with four races at the top of the seventh inning, driven by Alex Urban’s single scoring and hitting two races by Regan Reid in his first game of the season to give Clemson the lead. At the end of the seventh entry, South Carolina responded again with two runs to tie the score 7-7.

Will Sanders (2-0), the last of seven Gamecock pitchers, won the victory, while Evan Estridge (0-1) suffered defeat.

Tigers return home to host East Tennessee State at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday at 16h on ACCNX. The season’s three-game series against South Carolina is scheduled to end at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson on May 11 at 6pm
