City of Albemarle receives awards by the government – The Stanly News & Press

The city of Albemarle has received recognition in several areas of electrical operations.

ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc., announced the 16 winners of the 2020 Public Power Awards of Excellence. The awards are in line with ElectriCities’ strategic priorities and Albemarle was recognized for its achievements in the areas of communicating the value of public energy, modernizing the network, developing the workforce and wholesale energy costs.

“The commitment and dedication that North Carolina’s public energy providers demonstrate to their local communities is extremely impressive,” said ElectriCities CEO Roy Jones. “They are constantly working, in small and large ways, to provide better services and more value to the millions of businesses and homes in North Carolina served by the government.”

“When all the elements behind the scenes come together to provide reliable and affordable power consistently, it’s easy to be sure,” said Albemarle city manager Michael Ferris. “I am very proud that our organization and employees are being recognized for their efforts.”

Mayor Ronnie Michael added: “On my behalf and that of the Albemarle City Council, we want to thank our employees for their continued dedication and hard work to provide a trusted government. Recent disasters that hit Stanly County clearly demonstrate the value of locally owned and operated electrical systems with dedicated local staff to respond. This is a clear example of the value of public power. “

The city of Albemarle was awarded in four of the five categories. The award areas include:

Valor do Poder Público Award – The award highlights the communities that communicate the value of ownership of the electricity system to the main stakeholders.

Wholesale energy cost award – recognizes communities that provide competitive and stable wholesale electricity tariffs that meet the energy supply needs of members of the energy agency.

Workforce Planning and Development Award – The award honors communities that promote a workforce plan to attract, develop and retain the human talent needed to provide safe and reliable energy and lead the government.

Modernization of the Network Award – Its objective is to promote investment in the electricity distribution systems of public power communities and in technology to ensure safety and reliability, in addition to exceeding customer expectations.
