The New York Mets will host a new 24-hour COVID-19 vaccination center at its Citi Field stadium in Queens later this month, officials said on Tuesday.

“It’s incredible news, you might say,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a pun-filled announcement at a news conference, in which Mets owner Steve Cohen appeared virtually.

“The Mets organization has taken a step forward to help us.”
Hizzoner said the new site – run by the city’s public hospital system – will be able to deliver up to 7,000 vaccines a day and is scheduled to open in the last week of January.

“When we heard about your initiative, we were very excited to participate in this program, it is very important,” said Cohen de Blasio.

“We know the suffering that is happening to COVID and, in any way that the organization could help support this effort, we would do it.

“We can be reached by subway, train, highway, we are at the intersection of Queens,” said the owner of the team. “The goal is just to put the vaccine in people’s arms so that we can overcome this crisis and return to live a normal life”.

De Blasio called the move “a game changer.

“It is a great place, it is an incredible place, it is easy to reach by train 7 and there is also plenty of parking for those who prefer to drive,” he said.
