Citadel’s 2021 drop list includes Coastal Carolina, SC State | Citadel

Citadel will be close to home for its football games outside the conference in the fall of 2021.

Bulldogs will visit Coastal Carolina and the State of South Carolina and host Charleston Southern, in addition to eight Southern Conference games.

The season will start on September 4 in Conway, Coastal Carolina, which has just ended a spectacular 11-1 season under coach Jamey Chadwell, who had some memorable encounters with the Bulldogs as a coach in Charleston Southern .

Coastal Carolina, a member of the FBS Sun Belt Conference, will pay The Citadel a $ 315,000 guarantee for the game. The last time the two teams met was in the FCS 2015 playoffs, when the Bulldogs won 41-38 at Conway.

Citadel will also renew its rivalry with SC State, a team that hasn’t faced since the 31-8 victory at Johnson Hagood Stadium in 2001. The game on September 25 will be The Citadel’s first trip to play SC State in Orangeburg , and the first game in a home series. The state of SC will arrive at the Citadel in 2022.

The Citadel is 4-0 against SC State, including a 1989 game that was forced into Columbia by Hurricane Hugo.

The 9/11 home debut against Charleston Southern will continue the Bulldog series with the Bucs. The two schools agreed to a couple of games at home and at home in 2024 and 2026, with the 2024 game at CSU.

The Southern Conference game begins on October 2 with the Southern Military Classic against VMI for the parents’ weekend. This game will be followed by two road competitions at ETSU (9 October) and Furman (16 October).

Bulldogs end October with two home games. The Citadel faces Western Carolina on October 23 and Mercer on October 30. The game against the Bears will serve as the Hall of Fame.

The month of November will feature two road games in Samford (6 November) and Chattanooga (20 November). Citadel will celebrate Homecoming on November 13 against Wofford. The game will be sponsored by Roper St. Francis Healthcare.
