Chun Li from Street Fighter, a spinning bird kicks the can in a Stop Motion video

YouTuber Kenta “Animist” Shinohara uploaded a new stop motion video starring Chun Li de Street Fightsr. Animist uses his rotating figures, camera talents and editing skills to bring lifeless objects to life. In addition, he sent a making-of video showing the production behind the scenes.

In addition to equipment and figures, Animist also uses post-processing effects to add impact to strokes. Particularly, Chun Li’s classic special moves from Street Fighter series like Spinning Bird Kick and Kikosho get an added touch. The creator’s meticulous attention to detail in the final cut is impressive. It not only faithfully reproduces the poses straight from the games, but also captures small details like the camera zoom to keep the fighters in the frame when they jump. There’s a comedic ending that we don’t want to spoil, so take a look at the short stop motion for yourself below.

Animist also sent an equally detailed making-of video of the footage. It covers everything from unpacking the Street Fighter Chun Li figure to capture images to edit and render the final cut. His blog post also details how he added post-processing effects like animating flames using software tools. Figure enthusiasts and creators shouldn’t miss Animist by sharing their techniques in the video below.

In addition to Chun Li, Animist uploaded many stop motion shorts starring several Street Fighter characters. We were big fans of Sakura and Ryu’s video, although their Kirby video is possibly their masterpiece.
