Chromecast issue with Google TV can break groups of boxes

A useful feature of Google Assistant speakers and Android TVs is the ability to select several of them to play the same audio simultaneously. It’s a useful feature, but if the new Chromecast with Google TV is part of your group of speakers, it may also be corrupting them.

Before the launch of the new Chromecast, Google had been working for some time to allow groups of speakers to work with Android TV devices. After all, it was a main feature of the old Chromecast models, so the new one just couldn’t be missing. Although it works at this point, some users have encountered problems.

A problem highlighted by Android Police, some users have noticed that their speaker groups will stop playing randomly and will be stored continuously. Obviously, it is frustrating and seems to happen with all music services as well. The culprit? Although it cannot be said as a fact, it sure looks like the new Chromecast with Google TV is what is causing the problem, and it is still happening several months and several updates later.

Personally, I’ve been experiencing this exact phenomenon for a long time, but I didn’t know that Chromecast was the cause. Instead, I thought it was just a peculiarity of Spotify. However, I am not alone, as some users have reported this problem on Google’s forums since October last year.

Apparently, a workaround for the problem is to add the new Chromecast to a group of speakers after playback starts, a feature that Google launched in recent months. The new Chromecast can still trigger a pause or freeze when these groups are set up, but in this case, it doesn’t stop playback on all devices, just itself.

So far, there is no official solution or response from Google on the matter.
