Christian Bale gothic horror film The Pale Blue Eye goes straight to Netflix

Netflix acquired the rights to the gothic horror thriller The Pale Blue Eye. Deadline reports that the streamer spent about $ 55 million on the film, which brings together main star Christian Bale with director Scott Cooper. Bale previously worked with Cooper on the 2013 police drama Out of the oven and again at Western 2017 Hostile. The two will produce The Pale Blue Eye alongside Josh Lesher (bird Man) and Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek.

Based on the Louis Bayard novel of the same name, The Pale Blue Eye is written by Cooper. Its plot revolves around a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Christian Bale will play a veteran detective investigating the murders, aided by a young detail cadet who will later become Edgar Allan Poe. It has not yet been revealed who will play the world-famous author.

Cooper made his directorial debut with the 2009 film Crazy Heartstarring Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Gaining universal acclaim, the film won Bridges the Oscar for Best Actor. The director would follow up directing Bale in Out of the oven alongside Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck and Forest Whitaker. Along with the film starring Bale Hostile, Cooper also directed the Black mass with Johnny Depp as James “Whitey” Bulger. Your next movie Horns, a supernatural horror film, is scheduled to be released in October.

Some of Bale’s most popular roles in the past include playing Batman in The dark Knight trilogy, serial killer Patrick Bateman in American psychopath, John Connor on Exterminator: Salvationand British race car driver Ken Miles in Ford v Ferrari. He also won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The fighter and obtained additional nominations for their roles in Cheating, The Big Short, and Vice. Other functions include The driver, The prestige, 3:10 to Yuma, and Public Enemies.

Bale also has some other important projects underway. He will play Gorr, the Butcher God, the main villain, in the next Marvel sequel Thor: love and thunder. He was also cast in an untitled period film by David O. Russell as part of a set that includes Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana, Anya Taylor-Joy, Mike Myers and Robert De Niro. Thor: love and thunder will be released on May 6, 2022, while the film Russell does not yet have an official release date.

In the past few days, Netflix has also made two other major acquisitions. The streamer also paid millions for Colin Firth’s war drama Operation Mincemeat along with a new action thriller featuring Liam Neeson and Laurence Fishburne. The official release dates for these films have not yet been announced.

Likewise, The Pale Blue Eye has no release date yet. Allegedly, the plan from now on is to start shooting this fall, after Bale has finished filming his other film projects. This news comes to us from Deadline.
