Chris Polian, third ex-GM added to the front team of the renewed football team

The Washington football team hired Chris Polian on Monday, adding another experienced voice to its renewed front. Polian, the third former general manager that Washington added in this off-season, will serve as director of professional personnel.

Polian played a similar role with Jacksonville from 2013 to 19; he was out of the NFL last season. Polian served as general manager at Indianapolis Colts from 2009 to ’11. Her father, Bill, came to the Hall of Fame for his work as general manager of the NFL.

Washington recently promoted its former director of professional personnel, Eric Stokes, to senior director of player personnel.

Last month, Washington hired Martin Mayhew to be its new general manager, a position he previously held with the Detroit Lions. He also hired Marty Hurney, who held the title with the Carolina Panthers, to be his new senior vice president of gambling personnel.

Polian first joined the NFL in 1994 as a personal assistant to Carolina, and was director of professional scouts, assistant general manager and director of football operations during his career. He also has experience working with a salary cap, which was another factor in the decision to hire him.

He has not worked with Mayhew, Hurney or the Washington coach Ron Rivera in the past.

Last month, Washington allowed its former gambling team director, Kyle Smith, to take a similar role at the Atlanta Falcons. He also separated from assistant director of professional scout / advanced coordinator Jeff Scott, national scout Cole Spencer and staff coordinator / professional scout Brian Zeches.
