Chip Gaines told Oprah Winfrey that he “lost a part of me” because of fame … but stardom “was no big deal” for wife and co-star Joanna

Chip Gaines revealed to Oprah Winfrey that he ‘lost a part of me’ because of the fame he achieved with Fixer Upper.

The 46-year-old TV star shared that his wife and co-star Joanna Gaines handled stardom better because “it wasn’t a big deal” for her.

In a preview clip obtained by People, he revealed that he and Joanna tried to ‘unpack’ their problems after Fixer Upper ended in 2018 and they took a year off.

Oprah raised the subject by pointing out that ‘if you don’t know who you are when the fame thing arrives, then you get lost’.

She asked the guests, ‘Did you all start feeling this or did you know you were grounded before the fame thing came?’

The talk show icon elaborated: ‘You were so grounded, you had your own life, your four children and you took time off because you wanted to start over?’

Chip replied, ‘I want to speak for Jo because she would never say things like that, but she is incredibly wise, incredibly grounded.’

The heartthrob said sweetly, ‘All the things you just described are who Joanna is, and to be honest, I thought I was who I was, too.’

He confessed: that ‘the truth for Jo and I was no big deal for her, but for me to become famous I lost a part of me that was really, it was sad.’

Chip continued: ‘And I would say it took me a year or two while I was still filming to try to deal with what exactly I was missing.’

He noted that ‘so that year off I really think Jo and I were able to calm down and really try to figure out what was in the fame that seemed so incompatible with my personality’.
