China Steam has only 53 games

Steam is now available in China, and if you thought it would give Chinese players instant access to the strange, wonderful and sometimes deeply offensive depths of the service’s catalog, well, laughs, of course not.

At the time of publication of this customized and localized version of Valve’s storefront, there were only 53 games available, the main ones being Counterattack and DOTA 2. That’s it. If you visit the store and click on “all games”, you can see everything in a single screenshot.

Why the discrepancy? Like PC Gamer report, it is because, to get a launch at an official Chinese store, the games must have been government certified, and since most games would fail in that process (due to content and cultural reasons, as much as anything else), which explains the drop (for reference, there are more 20,000 items available on Steam for us).

Oh, and there are also no forums or other community resources, which means that there is no central place to complain about bugs and errors, although for some reason, Steam user reviews are excluded:
