According to local media, a passing deliveryman saw the child and climbed onto the roof of a shed to try to catch him.
The report says that the driver was able to reach out and grab the child with one hand, before he went out into the street.
Vietnamese state television said the girl was rushed to the hospital with a hip fracture and other injuries, but said none were fatal.
