Child injured in accident with former Chiefs coach Britt Reid, awake from coma

The 5-year-old girl who was hospitalized with brain injuries after being injured in a car accident involving ex Kansas City Chiefs coach Britt Reid woke up from a coma on Monday, his aunt announced.

Ariel Young was hospitalized and is in critical condition with bleeding and swelling in the brain earlier this month, and remained unconscious for more than a week. Her aunt shared on a GoFundMe page created to help with medical bills that Young was awake with.

More specific details about his condition are not yet known. Ariel’s 4-year-old cousin Julianna also suffered a concussion and broke her nose in the accident.

Reid – the team’s former external linebacker and coach Andy Reid’s son – admitted to the police that he drank two to three drinks along with his Adderall prescription before driving his truck and crashing into two cars parked on the side of a highway from Missouri earlier this month.

Reid did not attend the Super Bowl with the Chiefs and also suffered injuries in the accident that required surgery. He is no longer with the team and is under investigation. He was not charged.
