Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has not been selected for one of six NFL coach posts this year, meaning he will remain in Kansas City until next season. It was the third consecutive year that Bieniemy ran for a vacant position as head coach.
“I’m happy to have him (at least for another season), but I’m not so happy to have him,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, according to ESPN. “I really hoped that he would have the opportunity to take one of those jobs. You know what I think of him. I think he’s great. I think he would be great for any number of teams that would open up and help them win football games and also turn men into men. I just think he’s a great person. “
Bieniemy has been with Reid and Kansas City since 2013, when he was named running back coach. In 2018, he was promoted to offensive coordinator. He started in the NFL in 2006 as a Minnesota Vikings running back trainer. Under Bieniemy, the Chiefs had one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL, although Reid takes care of the primary functions of call play.
