According to several reports, the Bears will be in the market for a certain new tackle, as Ryan Pace decided not to choose Bobby Massie’s option. Although it initially seemed like a difficult task to do on a budget – while trying to find a starting defender – two new options hit the market.
Eric Fisher has been a dominant left tackle for the Chiefs since Kansas City chose him as No. 1 overall in the 2013 draft. Normally, a guy like Fisher would not reach the free agent market at this point in his career and, if he did , would seek a hefty contract – something probably out of the Bears’ price range. But Fisher suffered an Achilles tendon tear in the AFC Championship Game, not even two months ago. This could diminish the interest of an exceptional player.
In addition, the Chiefs launched the tackle on the right Mitchell Schwartz. Like Fisher, Schwartz is one of the best right-wing players in the game when he is healthy. He signed with the Chiefs in 2016 and has since been nominated for an All-Pro First Team and three All-Pro Second Teams. Like Fisher, Schwartz is recovering from an injury. He lost 10 games due to a back injury last season and was operated on in late February. However, before 2020, Schwartz had never lost a game in his previous eight seasons.
