Chicago police officers discovered seven children inside an empty apartment on Friday afternoon when they were called in for a welfare check on a building in Humboldt Park, officials said.

At approximately 3:50 pm on block 700 in North Trumbull, the officers arrived at the scene and made contact with a witness who reported that someone was inside an apartment on the first floor that would otherwise be vacant.

The police found seven children: a 14-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy and a 23-month-old baby.

All the children were taken to the AMITA Health Saints Medical Center Mary and Elizabeth and said they were in good condition, the police said.

A 31-year-old woman was being interrogated by detectives on Friday night.
