Chicago hospital executive resigns after improper distribution of Trump Tower vaccine

A senior Chicago hospital executive resigned on Wednesday after finding that he had improperly distributed COVID-19 vaccines to Trump Tower and other companies with which he had close ties.

Block Club Chicago reported that the Loretto Hospital board accepted the resignation of Anosh Ahmed, the distressed chief of operations, after publishing reports on his links to the inappropriate doses.

The council said it is continuing to investigate “any deviation from the rules and regulations” for vaccination.

“If our review reveals anything else that indicates that our processes have been compromised, there will be additional consequences imposed on those responsible for these actions,” said board chairman Edward Hogan in a statement.

Ahmed’s departure comes after the agency said the hospital misused vaccines provided by the city to inoculate restaurants, hospitals and other support staff at the downtown Trump International Hotel and Tower, where Ahmed has a $ 2 million condominium.

The event was reportedly orchestrated as part of the Protect Chicago Plus city campaign, which targets residents living in 15 areas on the south and west sides affected by COVID-19. The downtown area, where the luxury skyscraper is located, has not been included, reported Block Club Chicago.

Ahmed’s resignation also came hours after the agency reported that ineligible people working in a steakhouse where Ahmed dines regularly has also been vaccinated early.

More than a dozen Cook County Circuit Court judges were also vaccinated early through Loretto.

Last week, the city’s health department decided to stop sending further doses of vaccines to Loretto pending an investigation. Those who also received a dose at the hospital will be able to receive the second.

“Unfortunately, in the past few days, stories have emerged claiming that providers who were required to follow the guidelines (Chicago Department of Public Health) ignored these restrictions and instead allowed well-connected individuals to skip the line to get the vaccine instead of using it for service people who were most in need, ”said Lightfoot in a statement.

Loretto Hospital is a 122-bed facility that serves mainly black and Latino residents in neighborhoods close to the West Side.

The hospital was chosen last year to administer the first ceremonial vaccination for COVID-19 in Chicago.
