Chicago area schools announce closure and switch to E-Learning amid winter storm – NBC Chicago

With the expectation that snow will fall in the Chicago area by Tuesday morning, dozens of school districts have canceled classes or announced that they will switch to e-learning as a result of the weather.

According to the latest updates on the Emergency Closure Center website, several districts have announced that they will either cancel classes altogether or switch to e-learning as a result of bad weather.

An announcement about classes at the Chicago Public Schools is expected by 5 pm Monday, according to Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Several colleges in the area have also announced the cancellation of face-to-face classes, including Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. All classes after 5pm on Monday will be transferred online for the rest of the day.

All face-to-face classes at the University of Chicago were canceled starting at 2:30 pm on Monday, and cancellations run until noon on Tuesday.

Non-essential activities are also canceled.

The Lincoln Park and Loop campuses at DePaul University will close on Monday night and remain closed on Tuesday due to bad weather, according to university officials.

All face-to-face classes are canceled and online classes can be resumed as scheduled. The school is asking for face-to-face classes for the transition to remote education, if possible.

The University of Illinois-Chicago campus will be closed from 4 pm Monday, the school announced on social media.

Kankakee Community College will close its premises at 2pm on Monday and will remain closed on Tuesday. All learning will move to the remote learning format, the school said.

All facilities at Purdue University Northwest and Indiana University Northwest are also closed due to bad weather.
