Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic explains the main difference between Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard

Chelsea midfielder Matteo Kovacic discussed the differences between the club under Thomas Tuchel and former coach Frank Lampard.

The Blues maintained their unbeaten run under the new boss by beating Tottenham away from home on Thursday night.

A penalty from Jorginho was enough to earn Tuchel’s team the three points and take them to sixth place in the Premier League table.

Throughout the game, Chelsea dominated possession and had 16 shots compared to Tottenham’s seven.

And Kovacic later explained that since Tuchel took over from Lampard, he has put a real focus on trying to get his team to move the ball forward and create chances.

Speaking on the club’s website, the midfielder spoke about Tottenham’s performance and revealed what Tuchel had been saying to the team in training.

Kovacic said: “I think we have improved a lot in the last three games, we have won seven points. But we have to go game by game and try to be as high as possible and I think we can do it.

“I think we have few problems – we didn’t score against Burnley, either. In the last 15 minutes we were winning 1-0 and it could be even more.

“This is something that we need to improve, to finish games. I think we’re going to work on it a lot.

“It [Tuchel] explained what he wants. That’s exactly it – playing forward, to create chances, being in the opponent’s midfield.

“I think we have improved a lot in the last three games, but I think we can be even better and even more confident.

“In the next games we will be even better and we need to improve even more because we can do that.”

Chelsea’s victory over Tottenham was the second in three games, and Kovacic expressed a desire to maintain good form, saying: “It’s a good race. I think there should be nine because we had a great game against Wolves, unfortunately we didn’t win. But today we had another good game.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t score the second to be more relaxed in the last 15/20 minutes. But it was a good game for us and we need to continue. “
