Check out the original Thunderhawk Gunship, the most ridiculous model of the Warhammer 40K

Games Workshop greatly regrets the cost of its Warhammer 40,000 miniature table game. Few will argue that their models are not among the most detailed and ambitious on the market today, but there was a time when even Games Workshop exaggerated a little. I’m talking about the legendary Thunderhawk Gunship, one of the most expensive Warhammer models ever created.

I have been following YouTuber Emil “Squidmar” Nyström for some years, collecting tips and inspiration for painting miniatures. He was able to locate and purchase one of these original Thunderhawk Gunship models. Only 500 or more were produced for sale in 1997, and each cost $ 649.99. Adjusted for inflation, which is around US $ 1,050.

why are they so expensive? That was a time before all-plastic miniatures were the norm, and the entire model was made of metal. The model plus its box weighs over 22 pounds. There are 204 pieces and the contact points are completely flat. Putting it all together with super glue seems like a nightmare … but he will go for a ride and share the results with his audience.

Nyström has been provoking the project for some time, but on Thursday he released an appropriate unboxing video. Check out a tour of some genuine table history. And if you want your own Thunderhawk, know that they are still for sale on the Forge World website. The new sculpture is made entirely of resin and will cost $ 735.

Warhammer 40,000 is now in its 9th edition and selling well, thanks in part to a new high-profile box set and a mobile app. There is also a new line of paints that make it easier than ever to prepare your armies. Finally, there is also a small version of the game called Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team. With it, you only need a handful of models and a few simple scenarios to get started in the gloomy darkness of the distant future.
