Charles Martinet would love to give Mario a voice in the next film Illumination

Like all the other big video game franchises at the moment, Super Mario is being adapted for a big screen movie.

If you’re wondering if Mario’s voice, Charles Martinet, will be the voice of the iconic plumber in the next CGI film, you might be interested in reading on. In Charles’s words, he was apparently not contacted by Nintendo or Illumination at this stage.

“Well, it seems like a wonderful thing, it looks like a lot of fun and if they invite me to play, I will play with a lot of joy and happiness.”

“It must be a lot of fun, you know, everything the lighting touches looks fun and so does Nintendo.”

If that is the case, perhaps the production has not yet decided on the cast. In saying that, Hollywood also seems to have a bit of a habit of replacing the vocal talent of video game characters with movie celebrities.

Earlier this week, for example, Jack Black was announced as the voice of Borderland’s Claptrap. At the time, the character’s original voice said it was an “overwhelming disappointment” to lose the role, but wished Black all the best.

The Super Mario CGI movie will be released in 2022. Nintendo is proactively involved in its creation and Shigeru Miyamoto is on board as a co-producer.

What do you think about Charles not giving Mario a voice in the next film? Do you still think he will be cast as Mario’s voice in this version for the big screen? Share your ideas below.
