The Prince of Wales is much more concerned about his father’s health than Meghan and Harry’s appearance in a chat in the United States, The Mail on Sunday may reveal.

Charles is said to be “deeply concerned” about the well-being of Prince Philip, who the previous night was improving after a successful cardiac procedure.

A source said of the future king: “He is a man who feels emotions intensely and is much more concerned with the Duke of Edinburgh than with what Oprah Winfrey is doing in California.”

Philip is spending his 20th day at the hospital today, but he is expected to be well enough to meet with the Queen soon.

The 99-year-old man was operated on last Wednesday at St Bartholomew’s in central London, a major NHS heart center, before being transferred back to King Edward VII private hospital on Friday.

Buckingham Palace said he must remain in the hospital to “continue treatment” for a few days. He was admitted to the hospital on February 16 after feeling bad at Windsor Castle in Berkshire.

It was later revealed that he was being treated for an infection and was then transferred last Monday for treatment for a pre-existing heart disease. The palace declined to comment on the operation, but the duke is known to have placed a stent in 2011.

Meanwhile, sources say that although the expected revelations from Harry and Meghan have made the Prince of Wales ‘very sad’, he is still in contact with his youngest son. They speak regularly, although they have not discussed the content of the interview and Charles has not intervened to try to stop the Sussex from moving forward with the plan.

A source said: “They have maintained a close relationship between father and son for a long time and leave discussions about work to men in gray suits.”

It is widely accepted that Charles and Harry did not always have the easiest relationships. Royal sources say it would have been irritating for the Prince of Wales to see Harry recently defending the Netflix drama The Crown, which paints young Charles as a cruel and heartless scoundrel.

When the last series was released, there was concern at the palace that the drama had taken liberties – portraying Diana as the victim and portraying Charles as a relentless and indifferent husband determined to destroy her trust.

“It is fictitious. But it’s loosely based on the truth, ‘said Harry, who has a lucrative business with Netflix, in an interview with Hollywood chat show host James Corden.

Charles’s reluctance to confront his son, however, can be useful in a reconciliation that may even reunite Harry with his brother William.

A source said: ‘The Prince will wait to see what happens and will speak to Harry after the program is launched.’
