The comedian revealed in an Instagram post on Thursday that Comedy Central agreed to return his license and “paid me millions of dollars”.
Chapelle show is streaming on Netflix again and this time with Dave Chappelle’s blessing.
In an Instagram clip posted on Thursday, Chappelle revealed that the Comedy Central program that he created and that left him bitterly returned to the streaming platform on February 12, just over two months after being removed at his request .
In the clip, which appears to be from the comedian’s recent tour in Austin, Chappelle provides information on what led Netflix to pull Chappelle Show at the end of November last year. Talking about the recent insurrection in Washington DC, Chappelle revolves around people who need to know “where is their power”. He summed up his dispute with Comedy Central and his demands to be paid for any business related to Chappelle Show and then explained, “I know where my power is.”
“I asked you to stop watching the show and thank God Almighty for you, you did,” said Chappelle of her fans. “You did that worthless show because without your eyes it’s nothing.”
He added, “And when you stopped watching, they called me. And I got my name back and my license back and my program back and they paid me millions of dollars. Thank you very much.”
Chappelle thanked Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos for “having the courage to showcase his platform at the financial expense of his company, just because I asked him to.” He also thanked Chris McCarthy of ViacomCBS for “fixing the past” by completing the deal.
He ended the clip by saying, “After all these years, I can finally say to Comedy Central: ‘It was a pleasure to do business with you'”.
Chappelle Show was streaming on Netflix in the United States since November 1. In an 18-minute video of his stand-up released on November 24, the comedian talked about the terrible contract he signed at the beginning of Chappelle Show, which ran from 2003 to 2006 at Comedy Central. “People think I made a lot of money from Chappelle Show“, he said.” When I left that program, I was never paid. They didn’t have to pay me because I signed the contract. But is that right? I found that these people were broadcasting my work and never had to ask me or never had to tell me. Perfectly legal because I signed the contract. But is that right? I don’t think so either. “
He revealed that he had asked Netflix to do the show, which they did later.
