Changing FPS ‘Neon White’ looks super weird, so this is how it works

Neon White is a first person shooter, period. It is coming to Nintendo Switch and Steam and, on the PC, uses the standard WASD and mouse input. It is not on the tracks and, in fact, freedom of movement and speed are the main elements of the game. Players earn medals for overcoming levels quickly, adding a delicious layer of fast racing to the game.

Actions and weapons are augmented by floating cards scattered across Heaven’s platforms or left behind by dead enemies.

“The whole concept of playing is cards that are both weapons and movement,” said Esposito. “The way it works is, you start with just one weapon, like a small katana card, and you pass it on. And then all the weapons you get on the level come either from being scattered around the world, or if you kill an enemy, sometimes they drop a card. And when you take the card, you can now use that card as a weapon. It has a series of shots, depending on which weapon it is, or you can discard it, which would simply essentially exclude it. And in return, you will get some kind of movement ability. “

Take the Godspeed card, for example. If you choose to use it as a weapon, it is essentially a four-shot rifle, and it is accurate and powerful. But, if you discard it, it is a race that basically kills any enemy you come across. These card disposal decisions happen in quick succession in the game, as players catapult themselves from one heavenly platform to another.

Each action is extreme in Neon White.

“When you jump, you jump three humans high,” said Esposito. “When you move, you go very, very, very far. So, it’s like a first-person platform game in something that I really like about these old school games is that they can be cool, wide and clear, and they can be kind of abstract in the way the levels are built, which allows me to make really interesting and weird layouts. “

It also makes Esposito strange in relation to the second critical aspect of Neon White:

“The component of the story is very large,” said Esposito. “It is 100% structured around the story, which is strange for a type of fast-running shooter. It is not something that I think was really done. “

Neon WhiteThe narrative of begins with a simple concept. You wake up in the sky with no idea how you got there and are immediately launched into a competition to be the best demon slayer and win a permanent place beyond the Pearly Gates. The point is, all the other demon slayers seem to know you, and you don’t remember anyone.

Most of the narrative takes place in scenes of dialogue between the missions. The missions consist of 10 levels of rapid fire, card launching and killing demons each, with story beats scattered throughout.

“And then you have the opportunity to spend time in heaven,” said Esposito. “You talk to all the various other characters and you can find gifts and things for them. It kind of has simulated dating elements and you can give gifts to deepen your relationship, and they will give you things back by giving them gifts. Then, you will be able to do interesting side missions and other things that will further deepen the relationship. “
