Chad Wheeler arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, released by Seattle Seahawks

The incident started at about 9:44 pm Pacific time in Kent, Washington, according to Kent Police Department assistant chief Jarod Kasner.

Wheeler was arrested at King County Jail on charges of domestic violence, prison records show.

Wheeler, a third-year offensive striker, wrote on Twitter that “events took place over the weekend that followed a manic episode.”

Wheeler appeared on Monday in court, where his bail was set at $ 400,000, according to court documents. The documents say that Wheeler’s father went to court, although the minutes of the hearing did not indicate what he said.

Wheeler was released on bail Tuesday morning, prison records show. He is prohibited from contacting the woman, according to court records.

Wheeler’s lawyers, Diego Vargas and Jon Scott Fox, told CNN in an email that they are investigating the incident and “cannot comment until we have completed our investigation.”

Since the allegations involve domestic violence, and Wheeler’s partner did not speak publicly about the incident, CNN is not currently citing her.

Wheeler tweeted that he is “deeply sorry for the pain and suffering I caused” to his partner.

“The most important thing now is that (she) receives the care she needs and I seek help,” he added. “Both are happening.”

Wheeler also apologized “for the turmoil I caused my family, teammates, fans and people close to me” and said he is “truly embarrassed”.

“It’s time to leave football and get the help I need to never pose a threat to someone else,” said Wheeler.

The Seattle Seahawks issued a statement saying that “they are saddened by the emerging details against Chad Wheeler and strongly condemn this act of domestic violence”.

“Our thoughts and support are with the victim,” added the team.

The Seahawks said in the statement that Wheeler is a free agent and is no longer with the team. The NFL listed Wheeler on its exemption wire on Wednesday.

A league spokesman told CNN that he is aware of the matter, which will be analyzed according to the personal conduct policy.

Wheeler was drafted by the University of Southern California and played for the New York Giants from 2017 to 2019, starting in 19 of 27 games.

In the 2020 season, he played five games for the Seahawks.
