Like most CES products, real availability is a moving target if a product arrives. LG, however, appears to be promoting a new form factor beyond folding devices. Think of LG’s provocation as a roadmap for the future.
Perhaps the biggest conclusion is that the consumer electronics giants that innovate in display technologies see a lot of demand for versatile devices that take up less of their pocket.
LG sparked a talk by CTO Dr. IP Park Tuesday at 10:15 am EST on the future of lifestyle innovation. Perhaps we will see more about scrollable devices. LG could use a new form factor to increase its smartphone position.
Later, TCL also showed the concept of a 6.7-inch scrollable screen. TCL’s AMOLED 6.7 scrollable display may also have implications for various devices. TCL executives said display innovations will be critical to the company’s growth.

The portable 6.7-inch AMOLED Rollable Display redefines the standard shape of a smartphone. With a scrollable AMOLED display, it can be extended from 6.7 inches to 7.8 inches at the touch of a finger, transforming it from a smartphone to a tablet and creating an entirely new user experience with its user interface easily adaptable. The smartphone is less than 10 mm thick, which makes it significantly thinner than the foldable smartphone.
