CenterPoint is investigating a billing issue that has alerted customers that they owe more than $ 200K

If you just received a huge bill from CenterPoint Energy, don’t panic.

Several reported having received an email from CenterPoint Energy, the Greater Houston electricity provider, claiming they owe more than $ 200,000 to this month’s bill.

Melissa Correa from KHOU confirmed that CenterPoint is having problems with billing and customers owe hundreds of thousands of dollars for electricity.

“We have just been alerted to this issue and are investigating to resolve it,” wrote the CenterPoint @CPAlerts account in a reply tweet. “Customers do not owe this amount and it will not be withdrawn from their account. We will update our customers and the media as soon as we have a resolution.”

After days of power outages across Texas that left millions of people in Houston without electricity or heating, CenterPoint Energy reported that more than 98 percent of its customers had power again on Thursday morning, reports Matt Young of Chron .
