Celeste celebrates third anniversary with sequel to the original Pico-8

Strawberry fields forever

The charming, ethereal, evocative and difficult-to-control platform game for everyone heavenly he is now three years old. How time (and Madeline) flies. And to celebrate the anniversary of indie success, original creators Noel Berry, Maddy Thorson and Lena Raine released an 8-bit title sequel that started it all.

Developed during a Game Jam in the late 2010s, the rudimentary title now known as Celeste Classic inspired the grand launch of 2018, which tells the story of a young woman’s battle to overcome the starting mountain along with her own doubts and fears. Done in just three days, Celeste Classic 2: Lani’s Trek sees a new hero embark on his own pixelated adventure, swapping Celeste’s overhead panel mechanic for a reliable hook.

We wave goodbye to the world of heavenly – as well as its memorable cast of characters – in the 2019 DLC expansion Farewell. But Lani’s journey will scratch the itch for all C-Side conquerors, at least until we see a new project from the talented team that gave us an instant classic.
