Ceiling fans sold at Home Depot are revoked because blades can rotate

More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold by Home Depot are being collected because the blades can rotate during use, possibly injuring people nearby.

Hampton Bay’s 54-inch Mara Indoor / Outdoor fans were sold in stores and online from April to October this year for about $ 150, according to the recall notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. About 182,000 fans were sold in the United States and another 8,800 were sold in Canada, he said.

King of Fans, a product distributor based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida – sold exclusively by Home Depot – said he had received 47 reports of fan blades of the product coming off, with at least two consumers hit by a blade and four occurrences of material damage .

The called fans came in three submissions:

  • matte white (UPC No. 082392519186)
  • matte black (UPC No. 082392519193)
  • black (UPC No. 082392599195)
  • polished nickel UPC No. 082392599188).

Consumers were urged by the CPSC to stop using the fans immediately and to check for signs of defects. Those who notice “movement of the blades or irregular spaces between the blades and the fan body” during the inspection should contact the King of Fans for a free replacement.

The problem does not affect all 54-inch Mara fans made in China, according to the company, which offered a link to a YouTube video showing consumers how to determine if a fan is defective and needs to be replaced.

Consumers can contact the King of Fans for a replacement at (866) 433-1291, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm EST, or by email at [email protected].
