The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has launched a new tool to help Americans find COVID-19 vaccines, as counterfeits and scarce supplies continue to plague the distribution process.
The CDC recently issued an advisory that adults 65 years of age or older should be cautious about vaccines offered “free”, renewing concerns about an already tense campaign.
To combat counterfeit operations – and to help contain the dispute over which doses are still available – the CDC has launched a new tool to allow Americans to seek out vaccine suppliers with vaccine stocks in their local area.

Launched in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital and Castlight Health, the tool is based on the current VaccineFinder.org platform, according to NPR.
“The idea is to show where the suppliers of the COVID-19 vaccine [are] that are open to the public – how to contact them, how to make an appointment and try to show the status of the daily inventory so people know where there is a vaccine and where there is not, “said John Brownstein, founder of VaccineFinder and chief information officer for Boston Children’s Hospital.
The initial launch in most states is limited to providers that work directly with the federal government.

Alaska, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee will provide locations for all vaccine suppliers, including private distributors.
The new tool provides limited help, however, as states will continue to address the problems of their individual – and varied – approaches to delivering vaccines.
California has faced particular problems as the plan to allow counties to deal with their own distribution has seen scarcity in most areas and a complete lack of distribution in some minority communities.

“We’re not doing enough. We need to do a lot more programs like this,” said Governor Gavin Newsom at a mobile vaccination clinic in Inglewood, the Los Angeles Times reported. “We need to get people back to work. We need to get people back to church. And we need to get people back to school.”
