CD Projekt Red, developers of Cyberpunk 2077, recently fell victim to a recent cyber attack.
The company revealed the situation on Twitter, showing a ransom note that hackers left behind. “Yesterday, we found out that we became victims of a targeted cyber attack, due to which some of our internal systems were compromised,” wrote CD Projekt Red. “An unidentified actor gained unauthorized access to our internal network, collected certain data pertaining to the capital group CD PROJEKT and left a ransom note whose content we released to the public. ”
The opening line of the note says, “you were EPICALLY surprised !!” The following explains the source codes and internal documents on the CD Projekt Red for The Witcher 3, Gwent and Cyberpunk 2077 were stolen and would be sold or leaked if the ransom was not paid. CD Projekt Red had 48 hours to decide. “We will not give in to the demands or negotiate with the actor, aware that this could eventually lead to the release of compromised data,” wrote CD Projekt Red in response. “We are taking the necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular addressing any parties that may be affected due to the breach.”
