CD Projekt Red closes the mod that replaces the joy toy with Keanu Reeves

Cyberpunk 2077 fans have been creating mods for the game to change all sorts of things, from the minimap to the weather. There is also a demand for more daring mods, as players love romantic characters in Night City. For example, players who want to court Judy as a male V can do so with the help of a mod created by Zialar. But not all mods of this nature survived unscathed. CD Projekt Red has closed an adjustment that allows players to get closer to sex with Johnny Silverhand, an important character played by Keanu Reeves.

A popular but simple tactic for modders looking for ineligible characters to sleep on is to go to the game’s sex workers, known as joytoys, and replace their NPC models with more characters, like Goro Takemura or Evelyn Parker. A modder, Catmino, carried a version of this mod that replaced a joytoy with Johnny Silverhand – only to have CD Projekt Red step in and take the mod out, according to the creator. You can no longer download it.

The CD Projekt Red provided a statement to PC Gamer, reading in part:

Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it cannot be harmful to others. In the case of model changes, especially those involving explicit situations, it can be perceived as such by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077.

Therefore, when making content for fans, creators must make sure that they have permission from all interested parties (which may be other people besides the CD PROJEKT RED). For the characters we invented for the game, we widely allow you to adjust the game at will and just have fun. When it comes to models of real people we ask to participate in the game, we ask that you do not use them in any situation that could be considered offensive, if you do not have their explicit permission.

CD Projekt Red did not respond in time for printing. Johnny Silverhand has a sex scene in the game, but it’s from his point of view, which means that you end up not seeing much. For players who are disappointed, they can read other mods, including one that allows players to take on the role of Johnny Silverhand, John Wick or Keanu Reeves.

CD Projekt Red launched official modding tools on January 26, so players interested in adjusting their game can try. Just be careful when it comes to cameos from real people in the game, like Hideo Kojima.
