Taking to Instagram on Wednesday night, the Welsh actress, 51, paid tribute to her “extraordinary” cousin in an emotional post after her death on February 13.
Catherine posted a photo of Gemma next to a moving photo of a light that had the caption: ‘Gemma 1983-2021’ followed by a heart emoji.

The actress revealed that Gemma would take her ‘final resting place’ on Thursday, while encouraging her followers to ‘leave a light on’ in her memory.
Catherine wrote: “On February 13, my beautiful cousin Gemma left us in this world. She was truly a “jewel” for all of us and she was truly an extraordinary mother for her five children.
‘Tomorrow she will have her final resting place. Join me and my family and leave a light on for Gemma tonight.
Catherine’s 3.6 million followers were quick to send their love and condolences to the star for her loss.

It was an emotional few months for Catherine after the star mourned the loss of her father-in-law, Kirk Douglas, who died at the age of 103 on February 5, 2020.
The actress – who has been married to the son of star Michael Douglas since 2000 – said she will love Kirk for the ‘rest of [her] life’.
At the time, she wrote on Instagram: ‘For my dear Kirk, I will love you for the rest of my life. I already miss you. Sleep well … (sic) ‘

Kirk, who died on February 5, 2020, had two children, Michael, 76, and Joel, 74, with his first wife Diana Dill before divorcing in 1951.
Kirk’s eldest son, Michael, married Catherine, 51, who is exactly 25 years younger than him, in 2000.
The couple announced their engagement in December 1999 before getting married at the Plaza Hotel in New York, after Michael finalized his divorce from his first wife Diandra Luker.
Michael and Catherine, who turned 20 last year, have two children together – son Dylan 20 and daughter Carys, 17.
