Catherine Zeta-Jones comes on board as a series regular on Fox’s Prodigal Son for season two

With Fox’s Prodigal Son returning with his Season 2 debut on January 12, the show will have a new addition to the cast at the end of this season.

Catherine Zeta-Jones signed on for the regular role of Dr. Vivian Capshaw, according to a Fox press release.

The 51-year-old actress will be working alongside Michael Sheen, who also comes from her native Wales, debuting in the ‘second half of the season’.

The second season will find Dr. Martin Whitly of Sheen assigned to the infirmary service, where he meets Capshaw.

Capshaw, ‘delights in the task of’ The Surgeon ‘cleaning bedpans and mopping the floor’, according to the official description.

Surprisingly, Capshaw sees that Whitley becomes, ‘valuable in treating patients’, when she begins to ‘see him in a new light … which is not a good thing’.

“I can’t wait to see these two big head-to-head matches in a season that should set the bar for an excellent season,” he added.

The prodigal son will return for his second season on a new night on Tuesday, January 12 at 9 pm ET on Fox.

The program was the new # 1 series to debut last fall, with an average of 9.3 million multiplatform viewers.

The show follows Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a criminal profiler with a rare talent for getting into the minds of murderers.

He learned how they think because his father, Martin Whitly, was a notorious serial killer known as ‘The Surgeon’.

Now he is using his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve its most enigmatic murders.

The show also stars Aurora Perrineau as detective Dani Powell, JT Tarmel as detective Frank Harts and Keiko Agena as medical examiner Dr. Edrisa Tanaka.

The second season begins with Malcolm trying to look after his sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) while protecting his mother Jessica (Bellamy Young) from a secret that could separate the family.

The season also follows Martin as he ‘seeks to deepen his relationship with Bright, his prodigal son, but forging that bond leads to twists and shocking revelations’.
