Casting from Chrome to your TV

  • You can cast Google Chrome to your TV using the browser’s “Cast …” menu, which is available on PC, Mac or Chromebook computers and Android phones.
  • If you have a Chromecast, you can cast almost any web page; other streaming devices only support certain sites like YouTube or Netflix.
  • Before casting Chrome to your TV, make sure your streaming device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or phone.

We all know that there are several ways to cast from your phone to your TV – but what you may not know is that you can also cast from a computer to your TV.

If you’re using Google Chrome, you can cast websites from your browser to almost any streaming device. All you have to do is use the “Cast …” menu, which can be found in Chrome’s three-point “kebab” menu.

However, there are some caveats to this. Unless you are using a Google Chromecast, you cannot cast any web pages; most devices, like Rokus, will only accept video sites like YouTube and Netflix. A Chromecast, however, can cast almost any website to your TV, as well as certain files.

You also need to make sure that your phone or computer (any device you’re streaming from) is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your streaming device.

3 – A new menu will appear. Google Chrome will check your Wi-Fi network for devices it can connect to – in a few moments, you should see your devices appear. If they don’t appear, try restarting the streaming device and your browser.

4 – At the bottom of this menu, there is a small drop-down menu called “Sources”. Click here to choose what you want to broadcast:

  • Choose “Cast Guide “ to only broadcast the tab you’re on. This is what you should choose for most streaming devices.
  • Choose “Desktop Cast ” to share your screen on the TV. Only Chromecasts can do that.
  • Choose “Cast file ” to stream any files you’ve saved to your computer. Again, this is exclusive to Chromecast.

5 After deciding what you want to broadcast, select your streaming device from the list. In a few moments, the content should appear on the TV screen.

If the device you want to indicate “Source not supported”, it means that it cannot transmit whatever you are trying to transmit to it.
