Carthage man shot dead in South Carolina | News

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina confirmed to TV stations in the area that a Carthage man was the victim of a shootout in Hartsville, South Carolina, last Saturday.

Christopher Benton McLeod, 29, of Carthage, was reportedly shot and later pronounced dead at a local hospital after a shootout in the Hartsville Regional Airport area on Saturday night. The local WPDE station reports that there are three suspects being shot in connection with the deadly shooting.

According to the police report, Christopher McLeod and his father Joseph McLeod flew to Hartsville to sell hemp and flowers.

Reports from WBTW in Florence, South Carolina, said the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office showed up shortly after 7 pm on Saturday night. The report said that two people were huddled over Christopher McLeod, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered until the victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The police report said that before meeting potential buyers, who are believed to be suspects in the shooting, Joseph told Christopher that he had a bad feeling about the transaction and wanted to leave.

Christopher met with the suspects and Joseph said he heard shots and his son screamed.

Joseph McLeod was arrested at the scene after a hidden weapon was found with his person. McLeod was not allowed to conceal weapons in North Carolina or South Carolina. He was accused of illegal weapon possession, attempted and conspiracy under the drug law and for making or possessing another classified substance. He was arrested in South Carolina on $ 15,000 bail and has since been released.

The State Law Enforcement Division, the Darlington County Coroner’s Office and the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the incident.
