Fans have always wondered about Sex and the City’s The costs of Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment – whether we’re talking about her chic discovery of a room on the Upper East Side in New York, or the piece of “real estate paradise” that was her penthouse with Mr. Big.

With recent news from Sex and the City revival, this curiosity only continued to grow. Now more than a decade has passed since fans of SATC she saw Sarah Jessica Parker’s character for the last time in her UES-controlled house, for which she paid only $ 700 a month. All these years later, not even the miracle of rent control could get someone an apartment at 245 East 73rd Street – and partly because a) the costs are so much higher today and b) that apartment doesn’t really exist! It turns out that most SATC it was shot right in the center of the West Village and porch fans are familiar with it’s actually brownstone at 66 Perry Street.

But out of curiosity, let’s just pretend that Carrie’s excavations at UES were real. How much would that space cost today? The co-founder of the UrbanDigs real estate data site, John Walkup, told the New York Post that tenants would expect to pay at least $ 3,000 a month – and that is assuming it has features like no elevator and no doorman, just like Carrie’s house.

“To rent the apartment,” says Walkup, “would cost between $ 3,000 and $ 3,500 a month.” What if you wanted to buy the one bedroom and one bathroom apartment? “Based on recent post-reopening sales, it would cost between $ 550- $ 600K,” explained Walkup.

About the real apartment where SATC was filmed in the West Village, Walkup estimates that it can cost around $ 4,100 a month to rent and something over $ 880,000 to buy. So, imagine how much this coverage has Sex and the city: the film would run you! (And because you’re already wondering: Carrie’s and Mr Big’s pre-war apartment with that huge closet is a real penthouse located across the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, allegedly rented for $ 190,000 a month, and priced between $ 40 to $ 50 million for immediate purchase.)
