In the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the 35-year-old actress – who shares daughter Evelyn, five, and son Wilfred, three, with husband and singer Marcus Mumford, 34 – confessed that “she couldn’t learn to knit “because I was worried about maternity duties.

The Skylight star also talked about how to take advantage of Cassie’s “fun” role, who dropped out of medical school, in her new film Promised Young Woman, while posing in a high-fashion photo shoot for the publication.

About how she handled the coronavirus pandemic, the actor said: ‘I started knitting at the beginning of the block and tried it once and said,’ ‘I don’t have time to knit.

‘I can not do it. I can’t learn anything. I’ll just keep the kids entertained and then go to bed and do it again. ” ‘

The movie star went on to detail her early thoughts on Emerald Fennell’s black comedy thriller, and how she spends months preparing for her critically acclaimed passages.

Carey, a mother of two – who did not attend drama school – shared: When the script arrived at my agent, I just didn’t know what to do with it. I thought, ‘Why would Emerald ask me to do this? ”

‘I said,’ ‘Em, I just have to tell you, I love it, please, let’s do this.’ ‘And from then on, it was a lot of fun.

‘I didn’t go to drama school, I kind of felt like a chancellor, so I realized that I had to do a lot of homework so I could be here.

‘It makes me feel very self-conscious. I like being just an actor. I like to just show up and do my thing and then let them do it. ‘

“The reality of my life now is that I have two children under the age of five and I’m lucky if I can learn my lines and show up.”

Promising Young Woman, launched in the UK later this month, plays on the notion that women are just as violent, ruthless and angry as men.

Already highly rated by the Oscars, the production was described as ‘Thelma & Louise for the #MeToo generation’, after the 1991 road movie that showed two women doing justice with their own hands after a sexual assault.

Cassie, a 30-year-old girl who left university prematurely, has a mission to avenge her best friend’s rape and subsequent suicide.

By day, she has a dead-end job in a cafe, but at night, in various bars and clubs, she pretends to be drunk to catch men who consider her an easy target, before she does her own cruel justice.

Regarding dressing up with eccentric sets for her interpretation, the actress shared: ‘I never wore such a dress in my personal life, probably never.’

The Shame star also expressed his thoughts on the evolution of women’s perception by taking on more experimental roles in cinema and on TV.

Carey said: ‘We are finally understanding that the public wants to see stories about women that are not always necessarily legal. You still root for them, you still care about them – it’s brilliantly done in Fleabag, and brilliantly done in I May Destroy You.

‘Some of the things these two characters do is totally questionable and morally unpleasant, but you are 100 percent behind them, all the time.

‘It’s really fun to see people behaving badly. I certainly didn’t feel that kind of activity during the first decade I worked. ‘

The March edition of Harper’s Bazaar will go on sale from February 3, 2021.
