With the status of quarterback Kyler Murray in the air, Arizona Cardinals discovered signal caller Cole McDonald on Tuesday, according to the NFL Network Tom Pelissero.

The team also trained Khalil Tate, a former Arizona Wildcats quarterback and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, according to Darren Urban.

However, it is unclear exactly what position Tate was drawn up in.

McDonald was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He was released on August 19 to make way for veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian and later tested for the Carolina Panthers on August 23.

As a junior in Hawaii, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound caller recorded 4,135 passing yards (No. 3 in the country) and scored 33 touchdowns in the air (eighth in the country). McDonald’s also produced with his legs, running for 383 yards and seven goals in 101 attempts.

In three seasons in Hawaii, McDonald has accumulated 8,032 yards, 70 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in 61.4% of passes (326 out of 511).

All but one of his touchdowns came in his last two seasons as a school principal. He accumulated an additional 880 yards and 12 touchdowns in 251 races.

If he gets signed, McDonald could be the second or third straight quarterback on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams if Murray cannot match.
