Cardi B had to censor the spicy parts of “WAP” for her Grammy performance, but she is rooting for having even managed to make Fox News.
Commentators on the conservative chain have been grabbing their pearls this week during the rapper’s performance at Sunday night’s awards show with Megan Thee Stallion.
Right-wing commentator Candace Owens spoke “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Monday to voice her complaints, saying she was “terrified” that such content was leading to a “weakening of American society” and declared that “we are about to see the end of an empire. ”
“Yaaaayyyyyyy WE HAVE FACED FOX NEWS GUYS !!! Wap wap wap ”, Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, tweeted in response that night.
In a follow-up tweet on Tuesday, the rapper personally thanked Owens for giving his performance on the air and increasing his sales and views on YouTube.
This led to a big fight on Twitter. Owens took the bait, criticizing the rapper’s dance and telling her, “You have become a stain on culture and what it means to be a woman.”
Owens’ complaints are nothing new. Conservatives reacted this week exactly as they did when “WAP” – a celebration of female sexuality – was launched for the first time. The music was labeled as degrading, anti-feminist, vulgar and more. However, these same critics were notably less enraged by the dozens of sexually explicit songs by male artists.
Cardi B tweeted back: “Imagine if wap caused the fall of the American empire and not bomb threats in North Korea, terrorism, racism or bad government?”
“THAT WOULD BE SO ICONIC !!!” she added. (In August, she referred to the initial conservative uproar over his music with the same descriptor).
