Capitol TV actor facing assault, charges of interference for using a crutch as a weapon

A television actor was charged with several charges, including assaulting a federal police officer, during the January 6 riot in the United States Capitol building.

Fox News obtained federal court documents identifying Luke Coffee, 41, of Dallas, Texas, as a man who used a crutch as a weapon during the January 6 riot. A criminal complaint filed on February 16 shows that Coffee has been charged with the following five charges: assaulting a federal police officer with a dangerous weapon; interference with the police during civil unrest; obstruction of an official procedure; illegal entry into restricted areas and disorderly conduct in Capitol areas.

A special FBI agent found a probable cause for believing that Coffee was one of the people who broke into the Capitol building on January 6 and “used a crutch to assault Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department officers,” according to the lawsuit. judicial.

“Based on the information I analyzed, I estimate that between approximately 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm, Coffee was on the steps of the Capitol, specifically on the steps of the entrance to the Lower Terrace tunnel,” wrote the special agent.

Coffee then “seemed to make several statements” while turning “to the crowd”, the complaint alleges. In crime scene videos, including cameras on the policeman’s body, the FBI agent said he “observed Coffee making physical contact with MPD and USCP officers.”

“One of the cameras on the MPD policeman’s body shows that, at approximately 4:28 pm, Coffee retrieved a crutch from the area at the top of the stairs to the Lower Terrace area,” says the agent. At some point, continues the agent, Coffee is seen in videos holding the crutch over his head.

“At approximately 4:28 pm, Coffee lowered the crutch approximately to his chest and then lowered it to his waist and started pushing the crutch into the MPD and USCP line of officers,” says the agent.
