Capitol Studios promulgates layoffs and consolidation

The historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood, home to recordings by Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bob Seger, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles and thousands of other artists, is undergoing some major changes.

Among the changes is the consolidation of management services in all North American studios. The parent company Universal Music Group operates three studios in Los Angeles, one in Nashville, one in New York and at least one each in Canada and Mexico.

This change led to a change of roles for a longtime vp / studio manager Paula Salvatore, who recently celebrated 30 years in the studio. A source said Salvatore, who could not be reached immediately for comment, will continue to work with the studio in a different capacity yet to be announced. As word spread of Salvatore’s departure as a studio manager (without news of his new role) after the legendary recording engineer Al Schmitt posted the news on Facebook, the show of affection for beloved Salvatore by artists, musicians, composers and recording industry personnel resulted in several hundred posts singing her praises.
