The United States District Attorney for the District of Columbia opened an excessive-force federal investigation into the shooting death of Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old Trump supporter who was shot and killed on Wednesday during the Capitol riot, he said. CBS News.
The video of the incident shows an unidentified police officer shooting Babbitt when she appears to be trying to climb a broken window in a barricaded corridor in the United States Capitol building.
Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, lived in southern California, but flew to the nation’s capital for Trump’s rally.

CBS reports that US Attorney Michael Sherwin also opened a homicide investigation for the death of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who died of injuries sustained “while physically engaging with protesters”.
The Metropolitan Police Department is also investigating Sicknick’s death.
Three other people died due to medical emergencies during the siege.
At least 13 people have been charged in federal court for their roles in the deadly violation of the Capitol for crimes ranging from interstate threats against mayor Nancy Pelosi to violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Another 40 people were indicted in the High Court for illegal entry, violation of a firearm and other crimes.
“My office, along with our law enforcement partners at all levels, has been working quickly and leveraging every resource to identify, arrest and begin prosecuting those individuals who participated in blatant criminal acts on the United States Capitol,” said Sherwin on Friday.
