“The US Congress is united in mourning, gratitude and solemn appreciation for the service and sacrifice of Officer Brian Sicknick … On behalf of the House of Representatives and the Senate, it is our great privilege to pay tribute to Officer Sicknick for this lie – ceremony in honor, ”said Pelosi and Schumer in a joint statement.
According to the announcement, Sicknick will be at the Capitol Roundabout starting Tuesday evening, with a screening period starting for members of the U.S. Capitol Police starting at 10 pm. A tribute to Congress will be held on Wednesday morning, before Sicknick’s burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
The announcement was made amid the support of lawmakers and the United States Capitol Police for Sicknick to receive the posthumous honor. Sicknick was hit in the head by a fire extinguisher during the riot and later died in a hospital.
“The heroism of Officer Sicknick and the Capitol police force during the violent uprising against our Capitol helped save lives, defend the temple of our democracy and ensure that Congress was not diverted from our duty to the Constitution,” said Pelosi and Schumer in his joint statement. “His sacrifice reminds us every day of our obligation to our country and to the people we serve.”
